OVERVIEW
My Arcade Gaming released a standalone tabletop edition of the original arcade version of Contra, under their Premium Edition line.
The arcade unit features a joystick and buttons, as well as mock coin slots, to mimic the arcade game’s feel. The slots actually function as the unit’s power button. Next to the slots is a button to simulate adding coins in-game. There is also a Reset button, as well as a Start button to begin a new game.
Volume is adjusted through 2 buttons on the bottom surface. Brand new copies feature a sticker over the game screen, consisting of a screenshot of gameplay from the Jungle stage. The arcade machine requires 4 AA batteries to power, sold separately. Alternatively, the device may be powered via 5V micro-USB connection, also not included.
Simultaneous 2 player mode is retained in this miniature arcade cabinet, achieved through a connector cable for linking to another Contra cabinet. The number of players can be selected on startup.
The package consists of a flyer featuring their library of tabletop arcade machines, as well as pocket players. There is also an instructions manual and the multiplayer link cable. In addition to the items mentioned earlier that are not included, the design around the cabinet contains a lot of empty space. Ultimately, the product feels rather bare-bones for the selling price of $50 USD, before shipping.

-This port of Contra consists of an integrated emulator (outdated version of MAME) that runs the arcade original’s ROM. The emulator software includes a simple interface upon powering on the device, prompting the number of players and also describing the controls.
