-The sprites/animation frames of some of the enemy soldiers are glitched in stages 7-9. The Rifle Foot Soldiers and Prone Gunners share their running frames with the Unarmed Foot Soldiers. Once they begin firing, their appearance changes to that of the Standing Sniper. This new appearance is retained until they jump (ex, from a ledge), at which point they revert to the initial one.

-Like most arcade games of its time, Contra includes numerous DIP switches that can be set to various configurations to alter the gameplay. The switches set the following parameters:

Coin A: How many coins are required for a given amount of credits (Player 1). Options include:
4 Coins/1 Credit
3 Coins/1 Credit
2 Coins/1 Credit
1 Coin/1 Credit
3 Coins/2 Credits
1 Coin/2 Credits
4 Coins/3 Credits
2 Coins/3 Credits
1 Coin/3 Credits

*The player has unlimited continues.

Coin B: How many coins are required for a given amount of credits (Player 2). Options are the same as Coin A, above.

Lives: The starting number of lives provided for the player. Options include:

Orientation: Screen arrangement relative to cabinet orientation. Options include:

Bonus Life: 2 values, number of points required to gain the first life and the number of points required to gain all following lives. A single value indicates that it is shared between the first and all following lives. Options include:

Difficulty: Sets the difficulty of the game. Options include:

Normal
Difficult
Very Difficult

Attract Mode Sounds: Sounds played during the Attract Mode demos. Options include:

Flip Screen: Screen orientation. Options include:

Upright Controls: Number of sets of controls for an upright game. Options include:
Single
Dual

Service Mode: Alternates the game mode between regular play and a test mode that determines proper functionality. Options include:
Off
On

Sound: Sound delivery method. Options include:
Mono
Stereo

-Slider controls are also present that customize various internal game settings, such as the display (aspect raio, brightness, etc.), audio and system speed.
