OVERVIEW
GameTap is an online video game service that provides downloads of over a thousand games, from PC to console.
In October of 2006, a deal was signed with Konami to provide several of Konami’s console games for download via the GameTap service. This included the NES version of Super Contra. However, instead of providing the direct game (ex, via a proprietary emulator), the Konami Collector’s Series version’s EXE file was provided as a download. After purchase, users would download the game file onto their Windows PC and play in a supposedly encrypted form.
Unlike the original release of the compilation, this version required an internet connection in order to play.
