The following codes can be used only in the Japanese version. They are dummied out in the overseas counterparts; however, ROM hacks have been created where these codes are made accessible in the overseas versions.
70 Lives: At the main menu, using controller 2, press C, B, A, RIGHT, LEFT, C, B, A, RIGHT, LEFT, C, B, A, RIGHT, LEFT. A confirmatory voice clip will be played.
Level Select Menu: At the main menu, using controller 2, press LEFT, RIGHT, A, B, C, LEFT, RIGHT, A, B, C, LEFT, RIGHT, A, B, C. A confirmatory voice clip will be played.
Gain All Weapons: Anytime during play, pause the game and press (on controller 1) UP, UP, DOWN, DOWN, A, Up, Up, DOWN, DOWN, B, Up, Up, DOWN, DOWN, C. A confirmatory voice clip will be played.
Debug Mode: On the main menu, press LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, A, B, C, B, A, UP, DOWN on the SECOND controller. Currently, the only known debug functionality is frame advance; pause during gameplay and press UP on controller 2.
Instant Psychic Blaster: This glitch allows the player to immediately fire Fang’s Psychic Blaster powerup weapon, whereas it normally requires time to charge up. There are 2 methods to perform it.
In the first method, the player must have both this powerup weapon (weapon D) and the Power Punch (weapon B), but NOT the Flame Thrower (weapon C). With the Power Punch selected, press the fire button and immediately swap to the Psychic Blast. If performed correctly, a Psychic Blast projectile will be fired immediately. This method is trickier, but saves a bit of time.
For the alternate method, it does not matter if the player has the Flame Thrower. Equip the Power Punch, press the fire button and then immediately pause the game. Switch to the Psychic Blaster while paused, then resume the game. If performed correctly, a Psychic Blast attack will be fired immediately. This is the easier method, as the use of the pause button makes performing the glitch more permissive; however, it can use up a bit more time.
Debug Stage: A debug stage is found in the ROM data, although it is not accessible in the game by normal means. The following patch code can be applied to any regional version of the game to access this stage: FFFA48:00.
Secret Stage: In the third stage, after defeating the first mini-boss, the player will descend a ramp into an underground complex, with Smart Turrets along the way. At the bottom of the ramp is a destructible wall segment supporting an indestructible gray wall of the complex. Climb the gray wall to the top to meet a businessman of sorts and accept his challenge.
Star Control: During the Game Over screen, the animated star cluster can be controlled by player 2’s controller. The direction, orientation, state and size can be modified.
